Nehemiah 2:17 Then I said to them, "You see the trouble we are in: Jerusalem lies in ruins, and its gates have been burned with fire. Come, let us rebuild the wall of Jerusalem, and we will no longer be in disgrace."

Men are in trouble in our society. We’ve lost our place and our perspective. We’ve neglected for too long our responsibility for leadership in our homes, churches and communities. It doesn’t matter how we got here, all that matters is what we’re going to do from this point forward.

Joshua 24:15b “As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.”

Before we can make changes around us, the first change has to be inside us – “As for me”. That change involves a daily commitment to spending time with the Lord in prayer and study of His word. Biblical leadership involves holding oneself to a standard higher than we set for others. With this mind set we can effectively serve the Lord and properly lead in our homes and communities.

Proverbs 27:17 “As iron sharpens iron, so a man sharpens the countenance of his friend.”

Countenance is the physical expression of who we are on the inside. For a man to grow, we need the accountability that comes from our relationship, friendship, trust and honesty with other men. We sharpen each other in Christ.

Mark 6:31 And He said to them, “Come aside by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while.”

Jesus serves as our example and gives us our instruction. He speaks to us about taking time to spend together as men; a time without distractions to rest, recharge, re-energize, and grow. The time we spend together is meant to meet this purpose.
