The
Fretheims - Family & Ministry Summary
Peter & Miriam Fretheim have four children;
Hannah currently age 9, Elizabeth 7, Hunter 5 and Sarah
3.
Peter & Miriam work with the Muslim people of Nigeria;
street children, the blind, lepers, handicapped, diseased
and poor. These people have great physical and emotional
needs, but they especially need Jesus. They also work with
needy children and currently have hundreds in the ministry
full-time and several hundred others part-time.
They are currently working with a ministry started by SIM
or Serving In Mission (Formerly The Sudan Interior Mission),
called “City Ministries.” SIM is a 100-year-old
evangelical mission and currently has more than 1,500 missionaries
worldwide.
The Fretheims currently live in the city of Jos, in central
Nigeria. Jos is the perfect place for them to have their
base of operation since there is a mission hospital and
school near by. Although for years the Muslims were in control
of the government and were talking about turning Nigeria
into an Islamic state, God is mightily working in this country
to destroy spiritual fortresses and strongholds (2 Cor 10:4).
As God goes with them and before them, they are currently
trying to expand into the Muslim North (80-90% Islamic),
which is part of the 10/40 Window.
What is City Ministries? –
City Ministries is an urban ministry that is made up of
several specific urban ministries. These ministries included
“Gidan Bege” (House of Hope) which focuses on
meeting human need in order to effectively evangelize the
lost, “King’s Kids” which focuses on needy
children and “City Sports” which uses sports
to reach youth. City Ministries currently ministers in several
Nigerian cities and has more than 300 full-time, part-time
and volunteer workers that are sharing the love of Jesus
with thousands in need. The vision of the ministry is to
expand to every major city in Nigeria and eventually into
other African countries.
Gidan Bege (“House
of Hope” in the Hausa language) is the urban outreach
arm of City Ministries. Gidan Bege seeks to meet physical
and emotional needs through the use of medicine, prosthetics,
literacy training, vocational training, providing scholarships,
food, clothing, shelter and love in order to build bridges
for the gospel. Gidan Bege reaches out to several groups
including orphans, street children, the blind, handicapped,
lepers, poor, diseased and the spiritually lost (Including
many Muslims).
King’s Kids trains the needy children
Gidan Bege finds. King’s Kids currently runs CARE
(Children At Risk Educational) Centers for orphans &
street kids and helps oversee schools for needy Nigerian
missionary children. We currently have hundreds of children
in the ministry full-time and several hundred others on
a weekly basis.
City Sports uses
sports to reach youth. City sports has HQ teams that compete,
share the gospel and bring discipleship while also training
local churches to develop teams to do the same.

Hello to all our faithful prayer partners,
God is continuing to amaze us with His faithfulness to this
ministry.
Through your prayers great things are happening - you are
a huge part of what is going on!!!
Last week we saw two big miracles. A governor's wife from
a state where we have a new children's center came to Jos
to see the ministry. She was impressed and gave us a big
financial donation. Another woman from Jos came to our leadership
and told them God had told her through a vision to use her
property for orphans. She gave us the deeds to a hotel and
a school for free. She only asked that we take the five
orphans she had been caring for there. We are in the process
of setting it all up legally.
PRAISE the Lord with us for His miracles. The more space
and funding we have the more orphans we can help. God does
care deeply for orphans and this is one way He has proved
it.
PRAY for our advisory board and leaders as they are looking
for a new manager (our current one went to the US to study)
to run the ministry.
PRAY also for the funds for the daily needs like food, clothes,
medicine and school books for all the children and destitutes
we help each week. We live by faith every day praying for
the provision of our growing budget.
The Fretheims are busy but doing well. We have all adjusted
well to our return to Nigeria. Thanks for your prayers.
We need you and appreciate you so much,
In Him - Peter and Miriam Fretheim
