If the word "Evangelism" strikes fear in the hearts of many, the phrase "church membership" does little more than make our eyes roll. It sounds like a button-up shirt that's been overly starched or a bag of chips left out overnight: it's stiff and it's stale; it's uncomfortable and it's irrelevant.
But what if it wasn't. What if what we thought about "church membership" was influenced more by our being members at Costco and 24 Hour Fitness than it was actually informed by the Bible? And what if through belonging (formally) to the local church you were part of God's incredible plan to display His wisdom and glory to the world? Wouldn't you want to know how?
I think it will transform your understanding of church: its role in your life and in the world. But it will also challenge the calling you have to be firmly committed to it.
This sermon is based around asking two simple questions:
1) What does it look like to belong to the church?
2) How do you belong to the church?
