You probably don't know Roald Amundsen. That's okay, he doesn't know you either. (And he's not alive anymore). So why do some people know about him? He led the first successful expedition to the South Pole. But he's not just known for the goal he achieved, but the way he let his goal define his thinking, planning, living and everything (which may or may not have led to him sampling some raw dolphin meat.)
While the dolphin thing may seem weird, letting our goals affect who we are is not totally unfamiliar. We know the difference in sports from those who were on a team, and those who were driven to be the best. Olympic athletes are a great example, but so are those who get caught up in being the best at work, or school, or attractiveness (and awesomeness).
In Sunday's sermon from Philippians we see that Paul, in a very personal way, shows that his highest aim is not only for the advancement of the gospel, but that he is defined by it too because (MAIN POINT ALERT) the substance of the gospel affects how we aim for its advancement.
