The Arts Ministry of South Shores is a community of Christian creatives (artists, designers, dancers, photographers, culinary artists, florists, poets, filmmakers, theater artists, musicians, writers, woodworkers, etc.,) who desire to use their varied gifts and talents for God’s glory and the edification of the church. We seek to reflect the beauty and light of Christ through the exploration of creative expression and the development of artistic interests.

Our activities may include book studies, regular gatherings, art workshops, special events, exhibits, curated museum outings, art history presentations, concerts, theatrical performances, community outreach, and much more. There is no required artistic skill level to join the Arts Ministry, but an appreciation for beauty and a longing to honor and reflect our Creator with our gifts, talents, and resources is foundational in all we seek to accomplish.
We will meet regularly on the first Thursday of each month, from 6:30-8:00 PM, at South Shores, downstairs, in the Multipurpose Room. Please register online for each meeting, as some meetings may be offsite, or may require supplies or workshop
fees.
In addition, we may schedule art-related outings, service opportunities, meet-ups and collaborative projects, throughout the year. Details for these gatherings will be emailed to all those registered online in the Arts Ministry.

Let’s create something beautiful…together!

Beauty + Aesthetics

Thursday, October 1 | 6:30 pm | Ocean Room | $10 Registration
Join us for an audiovisual presentation and reception designed to deepen your understanding of the power of beauty and why it matters to God. Some of the most important works of art in the Western tradition will be showcased to illuminate the Glory of God in Creation and in His gift of the human imagination. Dr. Havlicek will discuss the basis of the term "beauty" as used in the Christian faith, in the history of art, and in recent discoveries in the science of neuroaesthetics. Drawing on his extensive experience in teaching at the college and university level, Dr. Havlicek will offer examples from Classical Greek art to the magazine covers of Norman Rockwell and much in between, unveiling beauty from the sublime to everyday life.
