His Nature is Not Ours

This powerful message invites us to examine what comes to mind when we picture God the Father, because that mental image shapes everything about our faith. Drawing from Luke 6:36, we're reminded that mercy isn't just one of God's attributes—it's His very nature. The sermon challenges us with a provocative truth: what comes naturally to God feels completely foreign to us. We're judgmental by default, quick to remember offenses, slow to forgive. Yet Jesus calls us into the supernatural gift of adopting God's merciful nature as our own. The cost is real—we're asked not to judge, not to condemn, to forgive freely, and to give generously, even to those who don't deserve it. But here's the beautiful paradox: the same measure we use to extend mercy will be measured back to us. When we loosen our grip on past hurts and grievances, we create space for God to pour His abundant blessings into our lives. The practical example of welcoming people in recovery—cigarette butts and all—illustrates what 'come as you are' truly means. We're challenged to pick up each other's metaphorical cigarette butts because the trade-off is worth it: lives transformed by Jesus. This isn't about being soft on sin, but about walking a third way between affirmation and judgment—a supernatural path that only becomes possible through Christ's strength.
