Jesus & the Sabbath

Mar 8, 2026    Pastor Ron Cline

This powerful message challenges us to examine our relationship with the Sabbath and our willingness to respond obediently to God's call. Drawing from Luke chapter 6, we encounter two transformative stories that reveal Jesus as Lord of the Sabbath. The first shows disciples eating grain on the Sabbath, prompting religious leaders to accuse them of breaking the law. Jesus responds by pointing to King David's example and declaring himself Lord of the Sabbath—a profound claim to divinity. The question posed to us is deeply personal: Do we have a Sabbath? Not just a day we attend church, but a sacred time of rest, reflection, and renewal with our Creator? In our hectic, distraction-filled lives, we're called to remember that God instituted the Sabbath not as a burden of rules, but as a gift of holy rest. The early church shifted from Saturday to Sunday to celebrate the resurrection—the ultimate victory that declares we are redeemed children of God. This message invites us to move beyond religious performance and discover the joy of genuine communion with the One who knows our thoughts, our struggles, and our deepest needs. The Sabbath isn't about checking boxes; it's about experiencing the presence of the God who created rest itself.
