Self-Control
What does it really mean to be in control? We tend to think of self-control as a matter of willpower, discipline, and sheer determination. But this message challenges that assumption at its core. Through the remarkable story of a man whose life was unraveling under the weight of addiction, we are invited to see that genuine self-control is not something we manufacture on our own. It is a fruit of the Holy Spirit, grown in us by a power far greater than our own resolve. The Apostle Paul's list in Galatians 5 confronts us honestly, reminding us that every one of us has cravings that pull us away from the treasures God intends for us. Whether it is a sharp tongue, overspending, lust, or something else entirely, we are all trading something. The central question this message poses is whether we are trading short-term cravings for lasting, Spirit-empowered treasure. When we understand that grace is not opposed to effort but opposed to earning, we begin to see that growing in self-control is an active, Spirit-led journey, one that calls us to renew our minds, protect our thinking, and lean on one another as fellow travelers on the same road.
